Almost too perfectly titled, Vast Vortex Litanies is the sound of SHRINE OF INSANABILIS both sharpening their blades and simultaneously finding other weapons to wield. Still a heaving obsidian mass, the band's sound here is heightened by an increased emphasis on spiraling melodicism and slipstreaming violence. Forever rising and falling, surging and merging, offering glimpses of glory and valleys of despair in equal measure, one could easily say Vast Vortex Litanies consolidates SHRINE OF INSANABILIS' all-too-considerable strengths. But that only tells half the story, as the quartet take surprising detours within these seven sulfurous litanies, flexing dynamic chops more fully than before whilst keeping the fires stoked for their all-consuming live experience. Thus, Vast Vortex Litanies is a record equally suited to stage and solitude.
