Like a grotesque, barely alive human crawling out of a burning tar pit, here comes Abscess, from the remnants of death metal legends Autopsy and Hexx. Abscess produces 33 minutes of rather repulsive sounding, bloody death metal that lacks any kind of melody, structure, or hook—as it should, I suppose. With song titles like “Rusted Blood,” “Ratbag,” and “Madness and Parasites,” I was expecting more of a gore-core beatdown, another bloody stab at creating Necroticism, but Tormented is pretty straightforward, old-school death metal with a touch of malodorous putrefaction for good measure.
