Filosofem is the fourth studio album by Norwegian black metal band Burzum. Recorded in March 1993, it was Varg Vikernes' last recording before his imprisonment. However, the album wasn't released until January 1996. The opening track was the first Vikernes wrote as Burzum. It had been previously recorded in September 1992 for the album Hvis lyset tar oss, but Vikernes was dissatisfied with it, so he re-recorded it for this album six months later. The album was deliberately recorded in terrible conditions. No guitar amplifier was used, but rather a stereo speaker and some fuzz pedals, and Varg used the worst microphone the sound engineer owned, a pair of headphones.
